ConfessionIn Confession, the priest, who as an authorized representative of Christ in his ministry of reconciliation, hears a penitent’s confession of sins, assigns an appropriate penance, and absolves the penitent of the guilt of sin, extending the peace of Christ to the troubled conscience and renewing the state of grace and reconciling us to God and his Church. Confession is seen as a place of victory and joy as one rejoins full union with Christ and is freed from sin!

Eucharist
The Catholic Church professes that in Holy communion the body, blood, soul, and divinity of the glorified and risen Christ is substantially present. We ask that only “properly disposed” Catholics receive Holy Communion, meaning they are in a state of grace, having been reconciled with the Lord through Baptism and/or sacramental reconciliation. The preparation of someone seeking First Holy Communion can look different based on age and stage of life.

Confirmation“Like Baptism which it completes, Confirmation is given only once, for it, too, imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual mark, the ‘character,’ which is the sign that Jesus Christ has marked a Christian with the seal of his Spirit by clothing him with power from on high so that he may be his witness” CCC, 1304.
Generally, at Santa Cruz, Catholics who have received their sacraments according to the usual sequence beginning with baptism as an infant are confirmed in the 10th grade.

Anointing of the SickAnointing of the Sick is instituted to strengthen Christians in their conformity to the suffering Christ. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age—in conformity with the Crucified Lord.
The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. Any Catholic with a grave illness or amidst significant operations may receive the Sacrament.EMERGENCY ANOINTING

Religious VocationsHoly Orders is a Sacrament of Vocation. Individuals called by God to be priests or deacons receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Through this sacrament, the priest or deacon receives sacred graces to shepherd and serve God’s people.
Some men and women are called by God to Religious Life. They accept the call to a life of total devotion to Jesus Christ through prayer and dedicated service to His Church. Those in Religious Life usually live in community with others and take vows as appropriate to their specific community.
