At what level will the education at Santa Cruz be, given that it is a "new" school?
The school will be a new ministry for the parish, but the principal and teachers all have years of experience and advanced degrees. Each person hired has a pioneering spirit and wants the opportunity to provide Catholic education in a warm, nurturing, child-centered environment for a strong faith foundation within a challenging academic climate.
What about the curriculum? My child has already been placed in a Gifted and Talented program?
The Santa Cruz Catholic School will follow the curriculum of the Diocese of Austin. This challenging program has students performing a year ahead of grade level. This is possible because of the developmental appropriate learning environment combined with a critical thinking structure which stresses creative problem solving. The small class size allows for individual attention and the use of themes and centers to allow students to "experience" their learning.
Why are students screened for placement?
The screening provides in depth information about the student which will be the guide to the learning style, language development, and basis skills the student has that are necessary for success in reading and writing. The learning plan for that child can then be designed to meet his or her needs for the greatest academic success.
How do I enroll?
Enrollment for Santa Cruz families is taking place now. Admission packets are available at the church office. The deadline to apply for 2007-2008 is July 16th. Enrollment will then be open to the surrounding area parishes that do not have a school. Santa Cruz is the only parish in this southern region to provide a Catholic School as part of its ministry, so enrollment is expected to meet the planned numbers and possibly have wait lists for 2008-2009.
